Transition in English

Successful transition has always been something we have been passionate about and we have strived to find new ways of ensuring this is smooth, worthwhile and aids as much progress as possible. We understand it is a daunting time for both parents and children, therefore, we have worked hard to implement a successful approach in English.

At the start of year 7, we begin with an engaging and interesting unit of work in which we embed and revise skills and knowledge from KS2, as well as introducing new concepts, new approaches and new skills. We worked closely with LCC on a ‘transition’ unit of work to ensure that the pedagogies that are so successful in primary school feed directly into our classrooms, ensuring students have some familiarity and recognise the structure. Alongside the expert LCC primary English leads, our staff created a specialised and innovative unit of work to enable a smooth transition for the students. We were fortunate enough to be a pilot school for this transition scheme and due to its success, used it as a spring board to create an entirely new curriculum that builds on this best practice and maximises progress in all years. Rest assured that your child will be well nurtured, appropriately challenged and extremely engaged throughout year 7 and beyond.
