  • Went to Greenlands Community Primary school and Ribbleton Hall Secondary School.
  • Made his England Test Match debut in 1998 against South Africa
  • Man of the Series in the 2005 Ashes and went onto captain England later that year.
  • Played in 183 First Class games for Lancashire and 79 Test Matches, 141 ODIs and 7 T20s for England
  • BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2005
  • MBE 2006
  • Freedom of the City Award for Preston
